Giving up the Old, Embracing the New

We all have bad habits that die hard.  I used to be a junk-food-junkie and I resort back there temporarily sometimes.  The top five foods that I used to over-eat that I still miss are : 1. Cool Ranch Doritos. I used to mow a whole bag in one sitiing. Now I am afraid to even read the ingredients list. 2. Vanilla ice cream. Oh, I love it still! I ate a whole large owl of it TWICE a day sometimes as a teenager.  It never bothered me, yet I avoid it except on special occasions. I do vanilla frozen yoghurt now.  3. Dark beer. I drink it still, in moderation. one or two once or twice a week instead of four to six four to six times a week back in the day.  I wont touch cheap yellow beer at all. I miss making my own amber ales. 4. Peanut M&Ms. My candy treat of choice....still.  I just have a few instead of a whole bag or two.  I really wish they just made them natural color without the red and blue dyes!  5. Pizza.  Used to scarf down a whole cheap pepperoni and have another one cold for breakfast! Now it's a healthy whole wheat crust with mushrooms and olives along with a salad. I gave up the ham and sausage cuz my gall bladder wasnt happy!

Well, there is my short list of food vices.  I am not proud, but I thought I would be honest with you so you could relate to my health learnin journey.  Now here is a list of five things I do now to replace and ammend those old problems: 1. My Seven Point 2 GREEN Smoothie each and every morning!  It is power-packed with good stuff and it tastes great. Bananas, frozon berries, organic apple juice, lemon squeeze, healthy yoghurt, flax oil, ice cubes and liquid vitamins or bee pollen. YUM!  2. Water....I love water now. I never used to drink the stuff, now I cant get enough.  No milk, no Kool-Aid, no Gatorade, no coffee and no soda. WATER!  3. Carrot juice. I juice it myself in the kitchen along with celery, zucchini, cukes, and several apples for sweet goodness.  Fresh and cold, it's liquid sunshine I can feel good about. 4. Less meat. I have cut way back from my carnivore days!  No Pork at all and less beef. Now it's turkey, fish and chicken thats organically grown and not BBQ'ed. 5. Walking. A new habit that I enjoy tremendously. Four nights a week I head out aroud my blocks for 45 minutes of peace and quiet (or a motivation message or a talk with my wife). I enjoy by myself most. Cool evening, quiet and the stars in the sky. Boy, do I sleep well afterwards.

Habits are self-created and they dont have to be self-destroying!  Bad habits dont have to have dominion, Lordship or control over your health. CHANGE THEM!  Dont be the dog that buries his bone just so he can did it up later to gnaw on it some more. Leave it buried.  In church today, Pastor Brian said we should be Dead to Sin and Alive to God. AMEN!  He stated that Jesus had a life defying life and a death defying death. COOL!  So it is not just about behaving better, but believing better. Change you attitude first and then he habits will change easier. You can do it. And maybe I can help you give up the old and embrace some new lifesyles!
